Amtrak needs help building better Wi-Fi.

In a press release festooned with enough emoji to confuse it with a X post from a cryptobro, American’s major passenger train company announced it wants to figure out how to get high speed Wi-Fi blanketing its Northeast Corridor.

Companies that want to pitch it on ideas to improve the Wi-Fi can fill out a questionaire that requires Google Chrome but looks like it was designed for Netscape Navigator.

Bluey fans in the US can finally watch that banned ‘mpreg’ episode.

Disney Plus has never hosted “Dad Baby” — likely because it depicts Bluey’s dad Bandit pretending to give birth to his daughter Bingo — but the entire episode is now available to watch online via the official Bluey YouTube channel.

Despite Dad Baby’s cult status, it's actually one of several episodes of the Australian children’s TV show hit with censorship.

Google issues response to Epic wishlist.

It’s exactly what you’d expect after the Fortnite maker said it was entitled to everything and a bag of chips due to its antitrust victory in federal court. Google wants Judge James Donato to think different:

“Epic’s demands would harm the privacy, security, and overall experience of consumers, developers, and device manufacturers. Not only does their proposal go far beyond the scope of the recent U.S. trial verdict – which we will be challenging – it’s also unnecessary due to the settlement we reached last year with State Attorneys General from every state and multiple territories.”

We’ll find out exactly how Android and the Google Play Store will change in a hearing that begins on May 23rd.

An OpenAI outage briefly broke push-to-talk requests on all Rabbit R1 devices.

As pointed out on Threads by @zebulon.vance, it looks like the problem was an OpenAI outage Thursday evening that was addressed about 45 minutes later.

The only remaining issue is that even after paying $200, your ability to even try to get responses from your Rabbit R1 AI hardware depends on other AI companies keeping things running 24/7.

Discord message: “hi @everyone - we are seeing an incident since roughly 3pm PT with push-to-talk queries not working across all r1 devices. this is a high priority investigation and we’ll post a further update when it is resolved.”

Tales of Kenzera’s heart-wrenching story proved tougher than its platforming

There’s challenging combat and platforming puzzles, but the hardest part of the game is grappling with its emotional story.

Tim Cook calls DOJ’s antitrust case against Apple “misguided” in first public comments on lawsuit.

In an interview with CNBC correlating with Apple’s Q2 earnings, CEO Tim Cook was asked for his thoughts on the Department of Justice’s major antitrust lawsuit against the company.

“I think the case is misguided, and we’re going to fight it,” he said. “It’s my job to make sure it doesn’t become a distraction. And so, you know, if you look at what they’re trying to do, is essentially use the law to define how we design products. And that shouldn’t be like that.”

‘Quality is going to deteriorate.’

InsideEVs Editor-in-Chief (and former Verge contributor) Patrick George spoke to two recently laid off employees from Tesla’s Supercharger team about what’s going to happen to the company’s once-vaunted EV charging network now that it’s been gutted. They’re worried that broken chargers will take longer to fix, as the employees that are left race to respond to outages. In short, it’s going to short circuit.

How much does someone get paid for briefly carrying a speaker in public?

Beats’ very orchestrated teases of a new Beats Pill portable speaker are continuing this week. F1 driver Daniel Ricciardo was seen carrying it in the exact same way that LeBron James did last month.

‘Tis the season for new speakers, after all.

Sony wants to buy Paramount with the help of yet another private equity firm.

Private equity firms are a blight on society, but Sony is hoping that its offer to buy Paramount for about $26 billion with the help of Apollo Global Management will be tempting enough to get the studio to consider biting — something Skydance and its private equity partner Redbird Capital Partners haven’t been able to do just yet.

It’s so hot in Asia that submerged towns have reappeared.

A dam in the Philippines dried out, revealing the flooded town of Pantabangan. This is the sixth time the town has emerged, but Philippine officials believe this is the longest it has been visible.

Asia was named the most disaster-prone region in the world. Sweltering temperatures forced government officials in the Philippines to close schools.

Take a look inside the Rabbit R1 and the Humane AI Pin.

I love a good iFixit teardown, and this one is super instructive. You can really see how much more polished and complex the AI Pin is, but both have a lot of tech and design even inside their cases. And if you’re thinking, gosh, there’s a lot of phone-like stuff in here... you’re getting it.

Blackburn and Blumenthal try to tack the Kids Online Safety Act to the FAA reauthorization.

The effort may be an attempt to force a vote on KOSA, which has stalled in both chambers despite having broad support in the Senate. The FAA law expires May 10th.

A bipartisan group of legislators introduced a companion to the Senate’s KOSA bill in April, but the House has yet to vote on it.

This is Krispy Kreme’s finest hour on the App Store.

Krispy Kreme is currently the most popular free iPhone app in the US. That puts it above Google and TikTok.

Wondering what sparked this rise? The company’s dozen days of deals, apparently.

Over on Google Play, Krispy Kreme is in the #25 slot. I’m not sure what that says about the donut intake between iOS and Android users, but there you go.

Why Elon Musk wants Tesla to stop being a car company.

On today’s Decoder, Verge transportation editor Andy Hawkins and I try to figure out Tesla. The company has been on a real rollercoaster these past two weeks — in terms of its stock price, its basic financials, and well, its vibes. With Elon Musk saying he’s going all in on autonomy and announcing a robotaxi event in August, it seems like we’re getting closer to a make-or-break moment for the company.

Between when we recorded this episode and today, there have been more than a half dozen new updates in the Tesla saga, including another wave of layoffs. That is a lot of chaos for a company that is trying to execute a huge pivot to become a very different kind of business than it is today — and do so very quickly. Like I said, Andy and I tried to explain Tesla. You let us know if we succeeded.

Fubo wants Congress to look into WBD, ESPN, and Fox’s sports streaming service.

After dropping Discovery networks this week, Fubo co-signed a letter with Dish, DirecTV, the Electronic Frontier Foundation, the Open Markets Institute, and others asking Congress to hold hearings about the sports streaming joint venture “that would control 80% of national live sports broadcasts:”

We cannot think of any scenario in the history of the United States where consumer interests have been served when such an important industry — here, access to live sports — is effectively controlled by three programming giants.
